Posted - 08/11/2007 : 00:52:38 Had a visit from MPS today and was left 3 letters :
1 Warning of possible prosecution 2 Letter from a company called HELLAS - Related to Greek Nova saying that the use of Nova cards is not allowed outside Greece 3 Copy of a letter from an MP dated 2005
To cut a long story short, we researched this back in April and bought our system in the open market in June. We have been running games since.
After the first week we had a call from sky saying it was illegal. Nothing since Then this today.
On informing the nice man from MPS that we didnt have anything to say and that we had a solicitor dealing any of these issues (we took out an insurance policy being offered as part of this scheme), he took a few notes of pub name etc and satellite supplier and informed us that the likelehood is nothing would be done until after next years high court case!!
He did ask for our card numbers and signatures but we refused and he left with the tail between his legs!!
I for one agree that this group is good and any news we can pass on to each other makes it easier for everyone!!
Im sure any other stories would be greatly received!!

Posted - 04/12/2007 : 14:58:17 none of the broadcasters has issued a letter like to one MPS procalim to have as it would be against TVWF laws for them to do so, any contract you sign may state that the rights are held for broadcast into a specific area, but that is why things are encrypted, so the broadcaster has kept to their side of the bargain
do you really think sky would write a letter to every other broadcaster informing them that nobody outside the UK is allowed to watch their broadcasts? and why would other broadcasters choose to only inform sky, via a private company (MPS) that people cant watch their broadcasts?
its all bull
good luck karen

Posted - 29/11/2007 : 21:10:52 I had a visit from a very nervous MPS guy 18/11/07 (i think he thought i was going to throw him out of the pub). He did make a fatal mistake by telling me that another pub had made the complaint.....it does not take a lot of narrowing down. The propganda that Sky have been streaming out in the trade press have encouraged pubs to tell on each other.
He also provided the advice letters stated above (one of the has 'Warning of Prosecution' written in bold red lettering on top of it). The third letter was from the Albanian TV company backing sky....funny as i do not have Albanian but another on.
I also refused to sign anything and answered 'no comment' to any questions, before stating to the MPS rep that i was doing nothing illegal and there is nothing he could do until the Karen Murphy case has been resolved.......he agreed and left with his tail between his legs.
Dont be intimadeted by these people and tell them nothing!!!!!
The best of Luck Karen....we are with you!

Posted - 11/11/2007 : 19:12:51 ALL of the broadcasters know about it, and most of them abide by it as it makes good business sense, especially with a broadcaster like nova, they know theres not 3.2 million people in greece, and sky know about it as well. as for the letter from hellas sat, dont make me laugh, who made that? ruperts grandson while learning how to use MSpaint? lol
allsorts of problems are arising with nova as newscorp (sky) have approached them with a takeover bid via a scandinavian company, and they still say theyre not making a monopoly?

Posted - 11/11/2007 : 18:08:37 I wish SKY and the FAPL would stop monopolising and forcing people to subscribe to SKY for the games. Plus I am sick of them informing broadcasters in Europe to terminate the cards. The letters saying they do not have the rights to broadcast in this country is nonsense because if you think about it logically - they are not broadcasting the channels in the UK - we are watching the signals that are broadcast in those countries. Also I wonder if these broadcasters know about the Television without Frontiers directive and their guidelines on the prevention of retransmission restrictions to other Member States.

Posted - 10/11/2007 : 13:21:00 giving them your card number would guarantee that your viewing would be killed within a day or two. its disgusting that sky can put pressure on another company to terminate a pre-paid contract thats totaly nothing to do with them.
Wether you have any sort of insurance or not DO NOT LET MPS take your viewing card number. If you do and it then gets switched off you should seek legal advice for damages, especially if you have bought through a finance package
